Boosting traineeships in the disability services sector

A pilot program will deliver up to 80 traineeships for the disability sector, in partnership between the State and Federal governments, and National Disability Services.

The innovative project will:

  • boost the number of traineeships in the disability sector

  • help trainees gain diverse skills and work experience across services including accommodation, community settings, children’s services, disability enterprises and day centres

  • meet the needs of employers in a transitioning sector

  • expand the Group Training Organisations (GTO) model of hiring trainees and placing them with host employers into a new industry.

This GTO model has been developed in consultation with disability sector employers, who sometimes find it difficult to fill vacancies and don’t normally use traineeship arrangements.
