Carving a new path for butcher apprentices

South Australia’s meat industry has been given a boost with 30 new apprenticeships to be created through Skilling South Australia.

Through the project, participants will:

  • undertake an eight-week apprenticeship-ready course, followed by a two-week work placement

  • gain exposure to high-level butchery training and skill development at leading retail butchers in Adelaide and regional areas including Mt Gambier, Whyalla and the Adelaide Hills

  • be directly matched to employers and receive ongoing support while completing their apprenticeship.

The State Government is providing more than $135,000 funding for the project that aims to increase the number of skilled workers entering the meat industry.
